May: Embracing Every Phase by Marie Arondeau & Trudi Taylor

It started with the pencil trick. You see if you can hold a pencil under your breasts, without it falling to the ground (no hands of course). If you are successful than they have begun to sag. The older women in Marie Arondeau’s life were making her privy to some (unsolicited) information about the aging female body. She wasn't sure if it was better to know what was coming or to go in blind. That's when the thought occurred to her, rather than fear and dread what’s to come, why don't we embrace every phase, celebrate it, like a Friday night. It was a question she posed to herself as well as the other women in her life. She began interviewing females from different decades, from 10 – 66 years of age. She wanted to know what they liked and didn't like about their bodies, what represented their femininity, if it had changed over time, and how much society had influenced those ideas. The dialogue that evolved from the interviews was reflective and introspective for all parties involved. The process was just as significant and rewarding as the resulting photographs. The images and interviews were then passed along to Trudi Taylor who wrote short fictional stories to accompany the images. Additional images will be projected with audio excerpts of the actual interviews. Marie and Trudi hope that this show acts as a small catalyst for you or someone you love, to appreciate, embrace and celebrate every phase of the female form.     Exhibit: Embracing ...
