Exhibitions

Each month, Litmus Gallery & Studios offers local artists the opportunity to exhibit their work for a full month in our gallery. We also have juried shows with multiple artists on an ongoing basis. All exhibits at Litmus can be viewed as part of downtown Raleigh’s First Friday artwalk, from 6pm to 9pm on the first Friday of each month.

Call For Artists for Exposed: Nudes in Art 2016

Exposed: Nudes in Art 2016 - Call for Artists Exhibition Prospectus Throughout history, representation of the human form has been charged with tremendous energy, both positive and negative. Whether a taboo or a revelation of mastery over form and expression, crafting life-like human figures has moved us. We use the human nude to master skill, understand ourselves, and push social and psychological buttons. We intend for Litmus Gallery's ongoing annual Exposed: Nudes in Art project to explore how our collective body is used today in art to achieve these goals and more. This year we are excited to renew our invitation to artists to submit works in any 2-D or 3-D media, of any style or genre (abstract, conceptual, highly realistic, etc.), for consideration in the Litmus Gallery seventh annual Exposed: Nudes in Art, a competitive exhibit exploring various treatments of the nude, semi-nude, and implied nude human form in modern art. Artist Calendar Monday, April 11: Artist entry information must be received by this date Friday, April 15: Artist notified by this date if their work is juried into the show Saturday, April 23: Accepted works hand-delivered to Gallery: 10am – 2pm Exhibit Calendar Friday, May 6: Exhibition opens / wine reception 6-9pm Friday, June 3: Closing Reception: 6-9pm May 6 – June 3: Exhibition open Thursdays 10am – 2pm and by appointment (email [email protected]) Friday, June 3: Exhibition closes 9pm: unsold art may be picked up at 9pm Saturday, June 4: Alternative pick up of unsold art: 10am – 2pm ...

Spectrum: Light, Robots & Contrast

Spectrum: Light, Robots & Contrast brings together an eclectic mixture of art from three talented artists with an exciting show that includes body painting, performance, and fine art. During the wine reception on February 5, a live body painting demonstration will begin at 6:30pm, followed by a live acoustic performance at 7:30 by Dream Emissary, a duo featuring bodypaint model Sara Bloo and her musical partner Jeremy Lewis. Light Molly Chopin creates art that she feels resonates with the human tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, in particular focusing on the power of light and color to summon comfort in worlds that are real or imaginary. Robots Mike Slobot makes robot sculptures and paintings that come with stories on the human condition such as searching for jobs, love, or meaning, all the way to search and rescue or health and healing themes. Contrast Daniel Laffey paints images that uses landscape and seascape as the basis for what is portrayed and his use of color is endless in the way that there is no boundary in regard to what you can see in a changing climate or area. Come prepared to be thrilled and delighted by the variety of art on display in this exhibit.  The exhibit is February 5-25, but don't miss the performances on opening night! Spectrum: Light, Robots & Contrast Wine reception: Friday, February 5, 6-9pm Gallery hours: Thursdays, 10am to 2pm and by appointment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrrWi7T0wY8 ...
